In 2005, Rockwood & Hines Glass Group Ltd. began its journey as China’s only French-owned glass bottle manufacturing factory. It was born out of Founder & CEO, Henri Berthe’s acquisition of a Chinese glass factory following years of working in the industry. His initial intention was to expand its export business. Little did he know that his entrepreneurial and artistic vigor would lead to the fruition of luxury bespoke bottle creation. A unique glass and ceramic bottle success story. Henri Berthe began by sketching and designing custom-made bottles for spirits companies himself...and you’ll still catch him doing so today!

What happened next?

The company began to grow. Soon after the acquisition, Rockwood invested in high-tech machinery, carried out extensive market research, brought in European engineers, and perhaps most importantly, implemented Laboratory Quality Control (QC). With QC, came the “lean manufacturing” philosophy. This enabled the healthy growth of the manufacturing plant and the expansion of its scope. New processes were implemented to reduce production times and costs, improve “right-first-time” results, and optimize customer service levels and quality control.

Today

Rockwood & Hines Glass Group Co. has 2,200 employees across 14 locations on 3 continents, and has become China’s largest bespoke glass and ceramic bottle factory. It produces over 6 million exclusive bottles for some of the most prominent premium brands in the global spirits and beverages arena, and a further 500+ million classic bottles, annually. In addition to producing flint and super flint glass, Rockwood produces 40 million black glass bottles per year. It is the only manufacturing company working with cobalt blue glass in China. Rockwood is also leading the way in the niche market of premium bespoke ceramic bottles.
